A police constable was granted bail when he appeared in the St. Thomas Parish Court to answer to a charge in relation to the shooting of a male taxi operator in Morant Bay, St. Thomas in August last year.
Constable Denmar Johnson alleged that during a confrontation between himself and the taxi operator, the taxi operator pulled a machete and attacked him, resulting in him discharging his firearm.
But this contradicts the reports of eye-witnesses.
Following an investigation by the Independent Commission of Investigations, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions ruled that Constable Johnson should be charged for wounding with intent.
Constable Johnson was granted bail in the sum of $450,000 with one to two sureties and reporting conditions.
He is to return to court on September 19.
