The National Education Inspectorate (NEI) has reported improvements in a number of  schools  which were selected for monitoring last year.

Education Minister Senator Ruel Reid released aspects of the 2016 report at a news briefing on Tuesday.

The NEI initially assessed 953 public primary and secondary schools in a baseline report in 2015. A follow up study of 103 schools was conducted last year.

Mr. Reid said many of  the schools in this round are doing better than when they were first inspected, especially in the leading indicators such as leadership and management, students’ progress, as well as curriculum and enhancement programmes.

Seventy-eight of the schools were rated “satisfactory” and above while 25 were rated “unsatisfactory” or below, he reported.

No school was rated as needing immediate support, he added.

The National Education Inspectorate is responsible for monitoring schools for education quality assurance and to ensure that they are operating with accountability.
