The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is probing another police fatal shooting in the St. Mary Police Division.

The alleged confrontation occurred Thursday evening in Fort Stewart. An illegal firearm was seized.

The deceased has been identified as 27-year-old Joseph Williamson, otherwise called 'Rider', of the same community.

A suspect is being sought in connection with the incident.

According to the police, about 9:15 p.m., members of the Operational Support Team were on foot patrol in Fort Stewart when they were attacked by two men, one of whom fired at them.

The officers reportedly returned fire.

When the shooting subsided, one of the men was found suffering from bullet wounds, while the other man escaped in the area.

The wounded man, later identified as Mr. Williamson, was transported to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The police say a nine millimetre Taurus pistol, along with three live rounds, was recovered from him.

On Thursday morning, a man was fatally shot and two illegal firearms seized during an operation by the Operational Support Team in Oracabessa.
