The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is probing the fatal shooting of an unidentified man by the police during an alleged confrontation in Linstead, St. Catherine on Wednesday morning.
The police reportedly seized an illegal gun during the incident.
Reports are that about 4:24 a.m., the police conducted an operation in Mickleton Meadows, during which the man, who was allegedly armed with a handgun, challenged them.
The police reportedly took evasive action and fired, wounding the man.
A Beretta pistol affixed to the magazine containing one round of ammunition was allegedly seized from him.
He was taken to Linstead Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
INDECOM is probing 158 fatal shootings since the start of the year; 22 of the shootings occurred this month.
