A Surinamese politician who is also a member of the ruling party was arrested in Brazil yesterday.
This was confirmed by the Public Prosecution Service of Suriname.
Authorities suspect Joel 'Bordo' Martinus of murder, manslaughter, complicity in both crimes, participation in a criminal organisation, violation of the Narcotic Drugs Act, and money laundering.
An arrest warrant was issued against Mr. Martinus on November 21, 2022.
After being identified as a suspect, he was removed from office by the government.
