Agriculture Minister Floyd Green has declared that initiatives to drive Irish potato production have been bearing fruit.
The Ministry has been pushing to improve the yield of the crop which has suffered due to climare change.
Mr Green says the initiative forms part of the overall thrust to ensure food security and improve the resilience of farmers.
The Minister was speaking after a tour of several Irish potato farms recently.
Import reduction
The Agriculture Minister is also touting the measures implemented to reduce the importation of targeted produce.
The agriculture sector was significantly affected last year, first due to drier than usual conditions, followed by Hurricane Beryl and Tropical storm Rafael in the last quarter of the year.
He said the focus now is on increasing production.
