Jamaica Customs Agency issues scamming alert

Jamaica Customs Agency is warning members of the public to be on the lookout for scammers posing as Customs employees.

The agency is reminding persons conducting transactions with Jamaica Customs that payments should only be made through its authorised channels.

These include over-the-counter payments at any JCA cashier, its e-commerce payment service, online direct bank transfers to the agency's official bank account, and advance deposit accounts.

The JCA is also urging the public to be cautious of correspondence appearing to come from Customs officers or the agency, noting that fraudulent documents can be made to look authentic.

Members of the public are being advised to confirm customs charges by obtaining a stamped and signed copy of their customs declaration, or C-number, from their shipping agent.

They are also being urged not to share personal information or make payments to anyone who is not authorised by the Jamaica Customs Agency.
