Jamaica moving to paperless court system

Justice Minister Delroy Chuck
By Prince Moore

Justice Minister Delroy Chuck has announced that the government will be introducing technology to enable a paperless court system in Jamaica.

This will be done through a bilateral agreement with the government of Rwanda, partnering with the company Synergy International Systems.

Mr. Chuck says the project, which is to begin this fiscal year, will push the operations of the court to world class standards.

It should cost J$780 million.

"This would be a game changer for the Jamaican courts and justice sector. We expect that this will cost somewhere in the region of US$5 million for software and training over the next two years. The project is expected to start in this fiscal year. Additional funds will be spent for the acquisition of appropriate hardware," the minister announced.

He was speaking Wednesday at the opening ceremony of the Regional Heads of Judiciaries Conference in St. Andrew.
