Jamaica is now under a Hurricane Warning as Category 4 Hurricane Beryl continues to move over the eastern Caribbean on a track towards the island.
The alert was upgraded from a Hurricane Watch.
A Hurricane Warning means winds of 74 miles per hour or higher associated with a tropical cyclone are expected in 36 hours or less.
This could also be accompanied by dangerously high water or a combination of dangerously high water and exceptionally high waves, even though winds expected may be less than hurricane force.
On the forecast track, the centre of Beryl will move across the southeastern and central Caribbean Sea on Monday night through Tuesday, and is expected to pass near Jamaica on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Cabinet says it will structure its disaster response to Hurricane Beryl under the Disaster Risk Management Act.
The Disaster Risk Management Act grants additional authority to coordinate and execute a range of emergency response activities.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness emphasized the importance of taking proactive measures as Jamaica braces for Hurricane Beryl.
The government has urged all citizens to remain vigilant, make the necessary preparations and cooperate with authorities during this period.
