PNP President Mark Golding
High-ranking People's National Party (PNP) members and supporters on Wednesday morning gathered in Old Harbour Park Square to register their disappointment with the Jamaica Labour Party's management of the country's affairs.
Donning party colours alongside supporters, PNP President Mark Golding again took aim at the controversial appointment of chartered accountant Dennis Chung as Chief Technical Director of the Financial Investigations Division (FID).
He argued that in the nearly 10 years that the government has been in office, it has "continually breached what it takes to govern the country in accordance with principle".
"The most recent of these things is, of course, the attempt to subvert the true process of the Financial Investigations Division and its true purpose. This is why we have to take a strong stance against it and we are very glad that we are not alone in this stance and that well-thinking Jamaicans and organisations, including non-political bodies, have seen it fit to stand up and shout out against this absolute aberration," he contended.
The PNP has taken issue with the appointment, arguing that Mr. Chung is unfit for the role given that he has exhibited bias on behalf of the governing party, thereby compromising his ability to execute his duties independently.
Meanwhile, Mr. Golding also blasted the JLP for what he described as a record of failure and mismanagement, including the ongoing upgrade of the Cornwall Regional Hospital, which he suggested was "a complete disaster for the people of Jamaica".
"Over $20 billion of predicted expenditure, several years of work and it can't finish, and the people of western Jamaica are suffering without a Type A hospital," he lamented.
"When we see the school system and the underperformance of our bright children and they are doing nothing about improving what is happening, we need a fundamental change in education and that will be a key pillar of the People's National Party's policy and programme," pledged the PNP president.
