Jamaica's Ministry of Education has confirmed that discussions are underway with the Caribbean Examinations Council to allow for adjustments to deadlines and requirements for school-based assessments and practical exams.

Education Minister Dr Dana Morris Dixon, speaking in the Senate on Friday, said the sitting of exams has been among the main concerns, arising from the damage done by Hurricane Melissa.

She disclosed as well that the sitting of the exams by the National Council on Technical and Vocational Education and Training, set for this month, has been postponed.

These xams have been rescheduled for February 2026, with a further option in June 2026, to allow students and institutions adequate time to prepare.

The Ediucation Minister disclosed that City & Guilds has proposed a two-cohort examination model, with sittings in June and November 2026, offering increased flexibility for schools in the most severely affected regions.
