Jamaican woman caught with ganja remanded in Antigua

A Jamaican woman who was caught with marijuana in Antigua last week is to spend another week behind bars.

Doreen Crawford, 43, was remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison following her appearance before Chief Magistrate Joanne Walsh on Tuesday.

She will return to court on June 21 when a date will be set for her to stand trial.

Miss Crawford, who was a first time visitor to Antigua, was arrested on Thursday [June 9] after she disembarked a Caribbean Airlines flight.

Her carry-on suitcase was searched and nothing was found.

However, when police and customs officers searched her check-in luggage, they allegedly found ganja concealed inside five pairs of rubber slippers.

The estimated street value of the contraband is $25,000.
