Jamaicans advised to stock up on mosquito repellant

The Ministry of Health & Wellness is urging members of the public to stock up on repellant to protect themselves from mosquito bites.

In a statement Saturday afternoon, the ministry said it is anticipated that there will be a significant increase in the mosquito population after the passage of Hurricane Melissa.

The ministry is urging increased vigilance in identifying and destroying mosquito-breeding sites by, among other things, punching holes into old cans and covering water drums.

It has also recommended the wearing of protective clothing such as long sleeves and pants.

Additionally, it is recommended the installation of screens on windows and doors.
