Jamaica's image threatened by PM's uncertified statutory declarations - Golding

Mark Golding

Opposition Leader Mark Golding says the questions surrounding Prime Minister Andrew Holness's statutory declarations do not reflect well on the country's image internationally.

The PNP president also took issue with what he says is the lack of coverage on the issue by members of the fourth estate - the media.

"Two years now his integrity filings, his declaration of his assets, filings and income cannot be certified. I don't hear the Gleaner saying anything about it, I don't hear the Observer saying aything about it. It's a serious issue and it's not a good look. Our international partners can't be happy with it," he argued.

Mr. Golding said the country must have a Prime Minister in whom all people can have confidence.

"We need a government of integrity, that ensures that the resources of the people are spent on the people and only for the people. We don't use it to fatten the pockets of cronies. This is why so many people are turned off of politics," he added.

Mr. Golding was delivering an address at a ceremony to present the PNP's candidates for St. Elizabeth at the St. Elizabeth Technical High School in Santa Cruz.
