JCTU reports progress on outstanding issues with public sector wage review

By Prince Moore

The Jamaica Confederation of Trade Unions (JCTU) says progress is being made on some outstanding matters under the public sector compensation review.

The unions have been in discussions with the Finance Ministry.

JCTU Pesident Helene Davis Whyte said the unions have responded to draft policies on overtime and uniform allowance for public sector workers.

She said further discussions will be held on the implementation date of the new rate for mileage and passenger mileage.

"We have arrived at understandings in relation to those particular items, but we still have discussion in relation to the draft policies as well as the increments during this three-year period. We have responded and so we are now awaiting a further indication from the Ministry of Finance as to whether they are prepared to implement those items that we have had agreement on while we continue discussion on the other items," Mrs Davis Whyte disclosed.
