JDF sets up 22 disaster relief outposts to aid marooned communities

 
The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) has established 22 humanitarian assistance and disaster relief outposts to scale up the response to marooned communities in the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa. 
 
Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Honess provided an update on the undertaking while making a statement in the House of Representatives on Tuesday. 
 
The outposts have been established in Burnt Savannah, New Market and Springfield in St. Elizabeth; Savanna-la-Mar, Darliston, Bigwoods, Lenox, Bluefields, Bethel Town, Amity, Beeston Spring, Thatch Valley, Frome, Roaring River, Content and Glenbrook in Westmoreland; and in St. James - Catadupa, Cambridge, Adelphi and Maroon Town. 
 
Posts have also been established in Wire Fence, Jackson Town, Falmouth and Perth in Trelawny. 
 
Dr. Holness, a traditional military bases will be established in the coming days to move humanitarian aid through airlift and other means directly to ravaged communities. 
 
The number of marooned communities is estimated at over 30.
