The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) is urging Auditor General Pamela Monroe Ellis to audit all municipal corporations chaired by People's National Party (PNP) representatives, alleging widespread corruption at these entities.
The ruling party wants Mrs. Monroe Ellis to focus on the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) where it is alleging that its opposition counterparts have engaged in using tax dollars to fund the election campaigns of caretaker candidates.
"Given the emerging trend of malfeasance and apparent systemic corrupt and inappropriate use of taxpayers' money at PNP-controlled municipal corporations, including of course the Manchester Municipal Corporation, the Hanover Municipal Corporation, the Westmoreland Municipal Corporation, the St. Catherine Municipal Corporation, and of course the KSAMC, the Jamaica Labour Party, like all well-thinking Jamaicans, are calling for the immediate and urgent audit by the Auditor General of all these municipal corporations controlled by the PNP, in particular, of course, the KSAMC," Marlon Morgan, a senior member of the JLP's Communication Task Force, demanded on Thursday.
The People's National Party has threatened legal action against the JLP for what it describes as baseless and defamatory attacks.
In a media release on Thursday, the PNP said it challenges the JLP and its operatives to present legitimate evidence to support the claims or immediately cease these "defamatory attacks".
