JLP's Matthew Samuda leads preliminary count NE St. Ann by-election

 
Preliminary results from the by-election in St. Ann North Eastern show the Jamaica Labour Party's Matthew Samuda in the lead with nearly half of the votes counted so far. 
 
Mr. Samuda has received 95 per cent of the 1,988 votes now counted.
 
This is from 63 out of 146 boxes.
 
Independent candidate David Anderson has received 83 votes or four per cent, while Chase Neil of the United Independents' Congress received 14 votes so far, or one per cent.
 
Meanwhile, the Electoral Office of Jamaica said voter turnout for Monday's by-election was just 9.4 per cent at 3 p.m.
 
Director of Elections Glasspole Brown told Radio Jamaica News that this was lower than expected.
 
Notably, the main opposition People's National Party did not contest the by-election. 
 
The EOJ said the turnout for the comparative period in the September 3, 2020 general election was 28.81.
 
As of May 31, there were 43,827 registered voters in North East St. Ann.
