Concerned residents of Job Lane in Spanish Town, St. Catherine on Thursday protested against the sexual assault of children, in light of the two incidents in the parish last week that have garnered public attention.

Nine-year-old resident of the community, Kelsey Ferrigon, was raped and murdered, while two sisters were sexually assaulted as they made their way home from school in Old Harbour.

The residents told Radio Jamaica News that the protest along St. John's Road was also to show solidarity with the police as they track down the perpetrators of violent acts against the society's most vulnerable.

"We are here also to show our gratitude to the JCF for a job well done, and that we are 100 per cent behind them, in any case whatsoever. Stop child abuse. Yeah, it look like is a trend, so we have fi try our best now fi come out and show Jamaica seh wi nuh deh pon dem ting deh - not only on Job Lane but all over Jamaica," said one woman.

The resident said community members remain tense and alert following the murder of the nine-year-old.

Meanwhile, Councillor for the Hampton Green Division, Theresa Turner Flynn, extended gratitude to residents of Job Lane for Thursday's initiative to highlight the issue of child abuse.

Mrs. Turner Flynn urged Jamaicans not to shield perpetrators.

She also shared that the family of Kelsey Ferrigon has been receiving support.

"Counselling session has been started for the family itself. I think the mother is very strong because even just now the mother spoke to me, and she said she's wearing her black, but because she has visitors at home, she cannot come here today. But the community at large, and even the surrounding community, is still grieving. I don't know when they will forget this greivance," lamented the councillor, who was speaking at the protest on Thursday.
