David Ebanks, respected Jamaican journalist of many years, has died. RJR News understand that he passed away at his St. Andrew home on Monday evening, after ailing for sometime.
David Ebanks worked at Radio Jamaica for several decades, starting in the 1950s. He worked in various capacities but distinguished himself in the News Department as RJR's Parliamentary reporter for many years. He was also a regular host on the long-running current affairs programme, Exposure.
He rose through the ranks to briefly become head of the News department, before leaving RJR in the early 1990s. Thereafter, he worked very briefly at Power 106 FM, then joined Irie FM as a reporter for more than a decade.
Regret
In response to the news, the Board and management of Radio Jamaica Limited have expressed regret at the passing of David Ebanks.
The Board and management, in a statement, noted that David worked as a journalist covering both news and sports on local and overseas assignments for many years, and also served as a broadcaster on the station.
"David served the company and the public with diligence and professionalism as a reporter, analyst, host of several programmes from the newsroom and for a short stint he worked as head of the newsroom" the statement read, ending with expressions of sympathies "to David’s family and friends in this period of bereavement."
