Journalist Michael Pryce is dead

The media fraternity is in mourning on Monday afternoon as news spreads that well known journalist Michael Pryce has died at 48.

Michael, who had been battling bone cancer for several years, passed away in England on Monday morning.

He last worked with the CVM Group and was also a reporter with the RJR News Centre.

Meanwhile the Press Association of Jamaica (PAJ) has expressed regret at the passing of Mr. Pryce.

President of the PAJ Byron Buckley says Michael's inimitable voice will be sorely missed from the airwaves.

"The Press Association of Jamaica wants to join the media fraternity in mourning the passing of our colleague Michael Pryce who fought a valiant battle with bone cancer. Michael was an active member of the PAJ, in fact he attended our monthly fete that was held at RJR Sports Club only days before he was hospitalized at the University Hospital earlier this year," Mr. Buckley said.

"His voice will be sorely missed from the airwaves but the camaraderie that he brought to association events will be fondly remembered. We just want to express condolences to his relatives and to his colleagues at CVM and Hot 102 in their moment of loss,"

In the meantime, the Media Association of Jamaica (MAJ) says it is with deep sadness that it learnt on Monday of the death of Mr. Pryce.

The MAJ says Michael was a proactive, inquisitive and persistent journalist, who never took no for an answer to anything he felt the public had a right to know.

And Opposition leader Portia Simpson Miller also expressed regret and sorrow at the news of the journalist's passing.

Mrs. Simpson Miller said Michael made significant contributions to media and journalism in Jamaica over a relatively short career and was the consummate professional.

He is survived by his widow Maxine and two daughters.

The RJR Communications Group extends condolences to Michael Pryce's family.
