JPS making strides in restoring power to hurricane-battered St. Elizabeth

Head of the Jamaica Public Service Company Damian Obiglio

Head of the Jamaica Public Service Company, Damian Obiglio, says work continues in earnest to restore electricity to St. Elizabeth.

The parish was hard hit during the passage of Hurricane Beryl, resulting in major damage to the infrastructure of the JPS.

Mr Obiglio says close to 100% of the parish was left without electricity.

He says a coordinated approach is to be undertaken to get the parish back on the national grid.

Additionally, in response to concerns raised by the parliamentary opposition that the light and power company lacks the necessary resources to quickly restore power to all affected areas, Mr. Obiglio says the company has all it needs to carry out the work.

"We have all the materials needed to do the restoration, even for the most affected area, we have all the bolts; we have all the transformers; and we also have the human resources."

He was speaking yesterday at a press conference at the Ministry of Energy.
