JUTC bus deployment: Conflicting numbers from Minister and Shadow Minister

By Prince Moore

Opposition Spokesman on Transport Mikael Phillips has accused Transport Minister Daryl Vaz of inflating the number of Jamaica Urban Transit Company buses available for the start of the new school year.

Mr Vaz said on Monday there was a shortfall in the number of buses scheduled to be deployed on the first day of the new academic year, conceding that only 285 units were deployed instead of the promised 315.

But Mr Phillips said he was informed that the number of buses deployed on Monday was significantly below the revised number.

He added that it's yet to be seen how the JUTC will provide the number of seats required in the Kingston Metropolitan Transport Region, especially with the return of students to the daily commute.
