Kingston Freeport Terminal and workers sign new wage agreement

The Port Authority of Jamaica says the management and workers at Kingston Freeport Terminal Limited have signed a new wage agreement.

The agreement was signed on Thursday.

Operations at some sections of the islands's main port slowed on Monday and Thursday as scores of workers stayed off the job.

At the centre of the workers' contention was a proposed salary increase arising from a job evaluation, which they said unfairly excluded some of their colleagues.

The Port Authority says it was advised that the executive management at KFTL met with workers and normal operations resumed Thursday afternoon.

But disgruntled workers have since sought the intervention of the Ministry of Labour.

The Port Authority of Jamaica is the regulator of the Port of Kingston and owner of the cargo port facility, managed and operated by KFTL under a concession agreement.
