The South East Regional Health Authority has confirmed a number of what it terms "operational challenges" at Kingston Public Hospital.
The affected areas are Accident & Emergency, Main Operating Theatre, Recovery Room and the Intensive Care Unit.
The Regional Authority says contingency measures have been put in place to limit the disruption of patient care.
It says it may become necessary to transfer patients to nearby healthcare facilities within SERHA for continued care.
SERHA says its operations and maintenance team as well as external contractors are "actively working" to restore normal operations and will provide periodic updates.
Health & Wellness Minister Dr Christopher Tufton, in response to the crisis, told Radio Jamaica News that efforts are being made to address pressing problems affecting the operation of Kingston Public Hospital.
Dr Tufton said the non-functioning air conditioning unit is affecting operations at the facility.
He said, in the coming days the matter will be addressed.
