As part of ongoing upgrades to keep essential medical services running, the South East Regional Health Authority (SERHA) is working to install 150,000 gallon water storage tanks at Kingston Public Hopsital and Princess Margaret Hospital.
The project comes at a cost of $99 million.
SERHA says the upgrade will act as a buffer for major National Water Commission outages and when municipal supply fails.
Health authority says each sealed tank is tied into the hospital's supply with metal piping and fittings and has passed structural and water quality tests.
According to the regional director, Lascelles Brown, the tanks will support uninterrupted patient care during emergencies and natural disasters.
He says will help water is essential for sanitation and infection control.
