Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke
The Govovernment of Jamaica has signed an agreement with Kroll Associates UK to provide forensic audit investigative services in support of the probe of the fraud that was uncovered at the securities firm, Stocks and Securities Limited (SSL).
This was announced on Tuesday afternoon by Finance Minister Dr Nigel Clarke, in his openening presentation in the 2023/24 Budget Debate.
Dr. Clarke said Kroll will bring leading technology to support the Financial Investigations Division in unravelling the 13-year fraud and "bringing co-conspirators and accomplices to justice".
The British Government has offered to cover some of the initial costs of this engagement with the Government of Jamaica covering the balance.
Dr. Clarke said the multi-billion dollar fraud at SSL has been a source of major embarrassment to Jamaica's financial sector.
He declared that those involved will be punished to the full extent of the law.
Former SSL Wealth Manager Jean-Ann Panton has been charged with defrauding US$1.5 billion from the accounts of SSL clients, including Olympian Usain Bolt.
Ms Panton was remanded following her last court appearance.
