KSAMC hit with $530 million repair bill after Hurricane Beryl

Chairman of the KSAMC and Mayor of Kingston Andrew Swaby

Hurricane Beryl has handed the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) a half a billion dollar repair and restoration bill.

Chairman of the KSAMC and Mayor of Kingston Andrew Swaby says while the Corporate Area was largely spared the wrath of Hurricane Beryl, a number of areas will need restoration work.

"Thankfully, there weren't many reports of flooding as in the past. There are also reports of gully wall collapsing in a few urban divisions. Preliminary estimates estimate the recovery cost during the passage of Hurricane Beryl on our public infrastructure is about J$530 million," he reported.

He said damage to roadways, drainage networks, public buildings and other infrastructure account for the cost.
