KSAMC pleased with post-carnival cleanup

 

The Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) says it is pleased with the post-carnival cleanup activities in St. Andrew and has lauded the bands for their efforts to adhere to the agreement. 

 

A cleanup schedule was established with public and private entities to ensure there was no repeat of the mess of garbage and paint left after last year's events. 

 

But despite warnings, j'ouvert revellers left paint on walls, gates, cars, sidewalks, directional signs among other items. 

 

CEO of the KSAMC Robert Hill says most of the paint was removed up to Sunday night. 

 

Overall, he says the interagency cooperation was a success. 

 

"Well I must say that this has been a vast improvement in terms of the cleanup of the painted areas that were inundated, particularly coming from the complaints from residents along the route that the j'ouvert persons marched," he noted. 

 

Mr. Hill said there are still some areas that need attention. 

 

"We did an assessment just tonight and we realise that some corporate places are still marked with the j'ouvert paint in the New Kingston area, generally speaking, and in Half Way Tree as well. And road signs, directional signs have been impacted by paint, so we expect that the organisers will take heed and have that rectified in the shortest possible time."

 

Still, he said he was "quite impressed" with the progress of the cleanup and that the bands, organisers and promoters stuck to their word.
