Three people have been charged in connection with an alleged major ammunition smuggling ring operating between Jamaica and the United States.
The suspects were detained last Friday during a major police operation at a house along Waterloo Road in Rollington Town, St. Andrew.
Three illegal firearms and a quantity of ammunition were seized during the operation.
Radio Jamaica News understands that the police conducted the raid after more than 900 rounds of ammunition were intercepted at the Kingston Wharf.
The ammunition was allegedly concealed inside a motor car battery.
Those charged are Ramone Reynolds, Dereka Harriott and Lamomba Grant.
They have been charged with possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorised possession of ammunition, stockpiling of firearms, and dealing in firearms and ammunition.
Two others detained during the operation have been placed on pre-charge bail pending further investigations.
Investigators say the network has been involved in importing ammunition into Jamaica, which is then sold in the criminal underworld.
