KSAMC steps up drive to eliminate roadside garages

Alrick Francis, City Inspector for Kingston & St. Andrew

"Cease and desist!'

That's the warning from the Kingston & St. Andrew Municipal Corporation [KSAMC] as it continues to clampdown on garage operators who use sidewalks and roads to park vehicles for a protracted period.

Alrick Francis, City Inspector at the KSAMC, noting that garage operators in Cassia Park have reduced the two-lane Moreton Park Road to a single lane, says garage operators who continue this practice may soon find their vehicles at the dump.

Mr. Francis says garage operators on Moreton Park Road received enforcement notices from the KSAMC but they have failed to remove the vehicles.

He says the KSAMC will also be exploring legal action for repeat offenders because it does not have the resources to be continuously going to the same location.

The KSAMC says it has issued 162 public health and road nuisance notices on derelict vehicles since the start of the year.

Last year, the Corporation issued more than one thousand of these notices.

Tthe KSAMC will also be serving public health notices on garage operators who are using residential properties for commercial activities, according to Mr Francis.

He says the state of some of these garages also present a danger to the environment and human health.
