Changes are coming to the building approval process in Kingston and St. Andrew amid complaints from residents that they are being excluded.

Community groups have complained that some developments, commercial, industrial and residential around the city are in breach of building code regulations.

Addressing the East Central St. Andrew constituency conference on Sunday, chairman of the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation and Mayor of Kingston, Andrew Swaby, acknowledged that the process for the approval of developments, including how objections are handled, is a long-standing issue.

But Mr. Swaby vowed that both developers' rights and citizens' rights will be taken into account, adding that he is "here for the interest of people of Kingston and St. Andrew".

The Mayor said an announcement on the changes  will come next week.
