Local Government Minister to meet with AJGA-J following Friday's aborted AGM

Local Government Minister Desmond McKenzie is to convene a meeting with the Association of Local Government Authorities of Jamaica [ALGA-J]following Friday's chaotic end of its Annual General Meeting.

The police were called in to quell tempers minutes after 10:00 a.m., at Golf View hotel in Mandeville, when councillors clashed over aspects of the meeting's agenda.

Mr McKenzie has condemned the chaos at the AGM.

He says it's disgraceful that this resulted in wounds being inflicted on ALGA-J President Winston Maragh and the premature termination of the meeting.

He also expressed concern that the series of events played out in front of a range of invited guests, including members of the media.

Mr McKenzie is reminding councillors that, while they are elected on the tickets of their political parties, they have a responsibility to everyone in their divisions.
