Man charged after attempting to poison girlfriend

  A St. Catherine man, Roderick Reid of Kitson Town who allegedly attempted to poison his girlfriend was remanded when he faced the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

He was charged with administering powder with intent to commit murder.

It is alleged that on June 30th of this year Mr. Reid and his girlfriend had a dispute.

Just after midnight, the woman and other persons in her household heard strange sounds.

When they investigated they saw Mr. Reid running from the yard.

At daybreak they found a powdery substance scattered on the ground in her house and on a container where she kept water.

The police were called and Mr. Reid was arrested.

The court was told on Tuesday that Mr. Reid works as a farmhand and had access to poisonous substance.

Samples of the powders have been sent to the Forensics lab to determine what it is.
