The local narcotics police and its international partners are investigating a suspected major international cocaine network operating on the island.
This follows the seizure of nearly 300 pounds of cocaine at a St. Andrew apartment complex last week.
Some 295 pounds of cocaine with a street valued at over US$500 million was seized at the apartment in Charlton Court, St. Andrew.
A property manager has been charged in connection with the seizure.
He is 63-year-old Allan Patrick Constable.
He has been charged with possession of cocaine, dealing, trafficking, and conspiracy to traffic cocaine.
Mr. Constable is also charged with possession of criminal property.
He was charged following an anti-narcotics operation conducted by the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID) in St. Andrew on January 8.
It's reported that about 10:50 a.m. a team of police personnel, acting on information, intercepted a Grey Toyota Hiace motor vehicle at the gate which led them to an apartment.
A search of the apartment and vehicle uncovered 122 parcels of cocaine.
Superintendent Sam Blake, head of FNID, said the substantial seizure is a significant blow to narcotics traffickers.
Superintendent Blake told Radio Jamaica News that two other persons were arrested in other anti-narcotics operations last week, and the successes are "further evidence of the effort being made to counter criminal networks operating in or through Jamaica".
He pledged that the FNID will "continue to focus its resources on those individuals and groups who pose the greatest threat to the state".
