One man has been charged while two others are being
interrogated in connection with last Thursday's killing of four persons in
Hendon, Norwood
in St. James.
Oneil Murray, 23, a labourer of volatile Bottom Pen in Glendevon in St. James Hs been charged with four counts of murder.
He was one of eight men netted by the police last Friday as they searched for the alleged killers.
The police are still searching for a fourth suspect.
Richard, 16 and his brother Ricardo Wauchope, 13, Albert Smith, 46, and his step-son 19-year-old Richard Henry, were shot dead when gunmen invaded their yard in Warrick.
The police believe that Richard, said to be linked to the killing of a taximan one day before, was the target of the gunmen.
In the meantime, three of the 40 men held during a massive joint security forces operation in Montego Bay on Tuesday are being investigated in connection with several shootings in the Canterbury area.
Three others have been slapped with drug charges after being found in possession of ganja.
The 40 men were held in a raid in Albion Lane and Canterbury.
Most of them have been processed and released.
Stamping out lotto scam which is fueling crime - police
Meanwhile with murders in St James reaching an unprecedented 202 since the start of the year, the police say they are making every effort to ensure the figure does not climb much higher.
Superintendent Maurice Robinson, who took the reins in St. James less than two months ago, says major operations have been underway, and will intensify with assistance from the Jamaica Defense Force.
He says recent multiple killings are linked to gang violence and the perpetrators are being hunted, while some are already behind bars. Superintendent Robinson says persons involved in the lottery scam will be specifically targeted as there is a major link between that illegal operation and gang activities.
With youths below age 18 being fingered in many crimes the police say they are taking a zero tolerance approach to truancy.
Business operators are being warned not to harbour them especially at places of amusement and night clubs.
