A man was fatally shot and three police officers wounded during a reported confrontation at Crawford Street in Mount Salem, St. James early Wednesday morning.
He has been identified as 29-year-old Romario Brown of Crawford Street, who the police say was wanted for murder and shootings.
A firearm was reportedly taken from him.
The details which led to the incident have not yet been disclosed.
The preliminary report from the police says about 3:18 a.m., there was a shootout between Brown and a team from the Area One Area Fugitive Apprehension Team.
He was wounded and later pronounced dead on arrival at hospital.
Three members of the police team were also taken to hospital for treatment after being shot during the alleged exchange of gunfire.
One officer sustained wounds to his shoulder and legs. He is in serious, but stable condition.
Another officer was grazed on his side, while the third officer was saved from serious injury by her ballistic vest and cellphone, after she was shot in the chest and the bullet became lodged in the device.
