A man is dead and his girlfriend seriously wounded after they were shot at a bar in Inverness, Knockpatrick, Manchester on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as 30-year-old Rushaine Weltshire, of the community.
It's reported that two gunmen, posing as customers, entered a bar operated by Mr. Weltshire's girlfriend, around 9 p.m.
The men then pulled firearms and pointed them at Mr. Weltshire who ran to the rear of the bar.
He was chased and shot.
The woman was then beaten and shot in the abdomen.
A taxi operator, who was driving past the bar and stopped after hearing the screams of the woman, had to make a hasty retreat after his vehicle came under a hail of bullets.
He eventually returned and transported the wounded woman to hospital.
The police are investigating whether robbery was the motive as the gunmen were reportedly heard demanding money.
A relative of Mr. Weltshire says the attack has made the crime situation in Manchester more real for his family.
"Mi still trying to process the whole situation because I never know that it could knock at my door. A now me really feel how other people feel when these things hit them, you know. And it mek we just wonder where we going as a country from here. This is really not Manchester anymore," he bemoaned.
Thursday's shooting in Knockpatrick brings to 43, the number of people killed in Manchester since the start of the year.
The recent spate of murders prompted a tour of some of the affected areas by National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang, last week.
