Man, teen boy facing gun and ammunition charges

A minor is one of two persons charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorised possession of ammunition following an incident along Spanish Town Road in Kingston on Monday, December 29.

Those charged are a 15-year-old boy of Kingston 5 and 24-year-old Neville McDermott, a labourer of Kingston 16.

Reports from the Denham Town Police indicate that, about 11:25 p.m., a police team was on operation in the area when they signalled the driver of a motorcycle, accompanied by a pillion rider, to stop.

The command was ignored.

The police pursued the motorcycle, which later stopped along the roadway.

After both accused, dismounted the motorcycle, the police observed a firearm fall to the ground behind them.

They were immediately arrested and the weapon was seized.

Both accused were subsequently charged after a question-and-answer session.
