Medical consultants in the public sector remain restive over unpaid retroactive salaries.
This is despite a pledge from the Ministry of Finance on Tuesday that payments will be made during the period April to June this year.
The issue relates to outstanding salaries for the period April 2022 to December 2024, arising from the compensation review.
The Association of Government Medical Consultants says, following an emergency meeting on Wednesday to discuss the latest offer from the Ministry of Finance, the members remain convinced that this timeline is unreasonably protracted, deliberately vague and non-committal, and are therefore unwilling to accept the offer.
The medical consultants say they continue to view the delay as unfair and unjust treatment.
The association says a firm request was sent to the Ministry of Finance to ensure retroactive salary payments to medical consultants are within this fiscal year, and no later than March.
In its letter to the consultants, the Ministry of Finance explained that the government is finalising the budget for the new fiscal year and until it is approved, a more specific date for payment cannot be provided.
