Dr. Marcia Graham, Medical Officer of Health for Westmoreland, is urging everyone to take precautions to protect themselves from the summer heat.
Addressing a meeting of the Westmoreland Municipal Corporation in Savanna-la-Mar last Thursday, she cautioned against prolonged outdoor exposure during peak hours, encouraging people to limit outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
Where possible, people should avoid being out for an extended period, especially between the peak hours of 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., she advised, while encouraging the wearing of breathable clothing and staying hydrated.
Dr. Graham also noted an increase in respiratory infections and encouraged simple steps to protect themselves.
