MOCA urges property owners to carefully vet potential renters

The Major Organized Crime & Anti-Corruption Agency is encouraging property owners to properly vet potential renters to avoid providing a haven for scammers.

Colonel Desmond Edwards, Director General of MOCA  says there is an emerging trend of lottery scammers using short-term rentals, booked through online platforms, as cover for their fraudulent schemes.

Colonel Edwards is encouraging persons who rent properties to engage in due diligence by checking the backgrounds of would-be renters to ensure that they are of reputable character.

The MOCA head says the agency has been increasing its efforts and capacity to better respond to cybercrime threats, and that it continues to work with local and international partners to disrupt, prosecute and remove the profit obtained through lottery scamming and other criminal activities.
