The outcome of Tuesday's midterm elections in the United States could profoundly change the direction of the country.
Republicans hold a majority in both houses of Congress, but President Donald Trump's low approval rating has given Democrats hope that they can flip the balance of power.
For Democrats to take control of the Senate, they will need to pick up four Republican-held seats while holding onto all their own. For Democrats to regain the House majority, they need to gain three seats.
Voters in several states are casting their ballots, with the first polls due to close at 6 p.m.
Technical issues delayed voting in Broward County, Florida, while flooding forced the relocation of 21 polling venues in the state. Minor voting issues have been reported in other areas, with voting machines in the key swing district that includes Westchester County, New York, unable to scan ballots.
