Jamaicans are being warned that more tremors are possible following the magnitude 5.6 quake on Monday.
The Earthquake Unit of the University of the West Indies has reported that it recorded at least 23 aftershocks.
Professor Simon Mitchell, former head of the Earthquake Unit and Professor of Sedimentary Geology at the UWI, said the 5.8 magnitude quake was about eight times as strong as the tremors felt earlier in the year.
Professor Mitchell, speaking on Radio Jamaica's Beyond the Headlines, said there is uncertainty regarding what is happening along the fault line between Haiti and Jamaica, which could see an even bigger earthquake.
