More than 5,000 farmers set to benefit from Coleyville cold storage facility

More than 5,000 farmers in North East Manchester and Southern Trelawny, who have suffered significant losses due to spoilage, are set to benefit from a multi-million dollar cold storage facility.

This, after a contract was signed Tuesday and ground broken for the refurbishment and expansion of the Coleyville cold storage facility at the Coleyville Industrial Complex in Manchester.

Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining Minister Floyd Green says the $294 million project will include the refurbishment of eight cold storage bins and installation of solar and water harvesting systems.

He says at least 30% of crops are lost yearly to wastage.

It is expected that the new state-of-the-art facility in Manchester will provide a more sustainable future for farmers.
