The mother of 31-year-old Oshane Scott, otherwise known as 'Chin Chin', who escaped police custody at the St. Mary Parish Court last month is urging him to surrender to the police.

Mr. Scott, who is of Manchester Lane, Cox Street in Port Maria, St. Mary, was scheduled to appear before the Port Maria Circuit Court to face charges of attempted rape, larceny, assault at common law, and unlawful wounding.

Speaking with Radio Jamaica News on Tuesday afternoon, Scott's mother, Beverley Williams, begged the police, who have since launched a manhunt, to spare his life.

"He didn't have to run. He's not a gunman. He never kill nobody. So mi a plead to you mi son, Oshane Scott, otherwise 'Chin Chin', I'm your mother. I love you. And if you love me so much, as what you said, I ask you, please, turn in yourself to the police. The police dem is running up and down cannot ketch you. You need to turn in yourself. Mi a plead to yuh, mi a beg yuh. And officers mi a ask you not to shoot him, cause he's not a gunman. Just make him surrender and unuh bring him in for me, please and thanks. Mi tired," the mother pleaded.

The woman said her efforts to help return Scott to police custody have been unsuccessful.

She also urged persons not to harbour her son.

"I speak to him and I call the inspector, Henry, immediately. And he spoke to him and said, OK, stay with your mother; I going to come for you. And him just push away mi hand and run. Just like that. So I don't see him back from them time deh. I don't hear of anything more. I don't know what to do. But I'm a mother who is very, very strict; I don't grow dem like that. So him need to turn in himself," she said.

Scott reportedly assaulted a police corporal during an escort, and escaped from custody last week.

The corporal was subsequently taken to Port Maria Hospital and treated for injuries sustained during the escape.

Scott, who had been in custody since February 21, 2024, is also wanted in connection with a threat warrant.

The police say he is known to have a small tattoo on the right side of his neck.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Scott is being urged to contact the police at 119, Crime Stop at 311, the NIB Tip Line at 811 or the nearest police station.
