George Wright
Member of Parliament for Westmoreland Central George Wright on Wednesday afternoon made his first presentation to the House of Representatives since being elected and since the furore over his continued presence in the House following a police investigation in which he was questioned.
Making his contribution to the constituency debate, he did not mention the controversy.
However, he thanked those in his corner for their support, including "the many prayer warriors who went on their knees to petition the throne of grace on my behalf during the many difficult times".
"A special commendation to the members and staff of the Savanna-la-Mar General Hospital and Falmouth Hospital who have been so gracious in ensuring myself and my significant other, Miss Tannisha Singh, to return to good health during our battle with COVID-19," he added.
The police closed their investigation into allegations of assault involving the Westmoreland Central MP and his partner Tannisha Singh, saying neither Mr. Wright nor Miss Singh were willing to participate in the probe.
Mr. Wright now sits as an independent member of the House, but was clear in his continued support of the government in his comments on Wednesday afternoon.
"The people of Westmoreland Central has (sic) put their last faith and hope in the government of Andrew Holness because they are tired of empty promises. Let us not let them down. The people of Westmoreland in the last election showed the country that they need a change. Let us not disappoint them. Let us show them that this government is of the people and for the people," the MP declared.
