MP wants JAMALCO to construct dedicated road to transport bauxite from Mile Gully

Member of Parliament for Manchester North West Mikael Phillips is pressing bauxite and mining company, JAMALCO to deliver on its promise to construct a haulage road to take the pressure off the existing Mile Gully main road, and reduce the risk to drivers and pedestrians.

Mr Phillips made the call following a brief protest over the issue, in Mile Gully, on the weekend.

He's warning that he may not be able to restrain constituents in the future, if the company continues to ignore their calls.

JAMALCO transports bauxite from its mining operations in Mile Gully to its plant in Clarendon.

Mr Phillips has been warning that the heavy trucks transporting bauxite along the current route pose a risk to students and motorists, while also damaging the roadway.
