MPs, Senators to be sworn-in on Thursday

Successful candidates in the September 3 parliamentary general election are scheduled to take their seats in the House of Representatives on Thursday. They, along with nominees for the Senate will be sworn-in during a ceremony starting, at 11:00 a.m.
 
This will mark the official start of the 2025 Parliamentary term.
 
The Jamaica Labour Party will have 35 members in the reconstituted House of Representatives with the PNP assigned the remaining 28 seats, having doubled its representation from the previous parliament.
 
Among the new members on the JLP's side are former mayor of Kingston Delroy Williams, Andrew Morris and Audrey Marks.
 
New members on the PNP side include Nekeisha Burchell, Yvonne Rosemarie Shaw, Isat Buchanan, Wavell Hinds and Zuleika Jess.
 
Among those returning to the Lower House after losing their seats in the 2020 election are Peter Bunting, Dr Dayton Campbell and Richard Azan.
 
Governor-General Sir Patrick Allen also confirmed that PNP President Mark Golding will continue serving as Leader of the Opposition, with all opposition MPs having confirmed their support of his reappointment in writing.
