Acting Director-General of the Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority Nicole Morgan says a multi-pronged probe is underway to determine the circumstances under which an aircraft veered off the runway at Norman Manley International Airport on Thursday evening.

There was damage to the engine, fan blade and hydraulic hoses of the American Airlines plane, while some lights along the runway were also damaged, arising from the incident.

The plane was carrying 167 passengers and six crew members.

Mrs Morgan, speaking on Radio Jamaica's Beyond the Headlines, said the probe is being done in line with regulations governing civil aviation.

When questioned as to whether there was any fault on the part of the Jamaican authorities, Mrs Morgan said more will be known in the coming days.
